Putting you in control of your own healing

Professional care is a critical part of your journey through healing after injury. As physiotherapists, we’re here to ensure you get the right diagnosis, the right hands-on support and the right education to support you. However, it’s important to realise that the work that happens outside of the clinic is what is really going to move the needle on your recovery. In fact, 90% of the work that goes into your injury rehabilitation is over to you, the patient.

After an injury occurs, you can feel frustrated, helpless and disappointed – but you’re more in control than you probably realise. We know you have a life you want to get back to, but being accountable to your side of the rehabilitation process is ultimately what will get you back to performing those activities, responsibilities and roles with ease. Your regular physiotherapy or rehabilitation appointments are important, but should not be viewed as a magic bullet for a fast recovery. The effort you put into your at-home exercises or rehab activities will make all the difference to how well your injury heals, and how fast you’re able to return to everyday life, pain-free.

A commitment to this rehabilitation process ensures you:

✓ Regain pre-injury strength

✓ Improve flexibility and balance

✓ Avoid secondary complications

✓ Prevent injury from recurring through good healing

Our prerogative is to empower you with the right tools and knowledge, so you feel committed and confident when it comes to your healing. But at the end of the day, only you are responsible for your own health and healing.

So, to help you keep up your side of the deal, here’s what we do:

  • We give you clear advice
It’s our job to know the intricacies of the human body, and translate that knowledge to you in a way that makes sense. We do this by helping you understand how and why your injury or pain has occurred, and what needs to happen in order for your body to heal. We know that too much information can feel overwhelming, so we’ll break this down into simple exercise prescriptions that are specific to your injury or rehab needs, and specific to the stage of the healing process.

  • We make it easy to access the expertise you need
We set up Refine Health in a way that makes it easy for our patients to get access to trusted, professional healthcare practitioners who can help them with their recovery. After all, while an injury might have brought you in to see us in the first place, your recovery might require a more holistic approach. We can provide you with access to massage, pilates, nutrition experts, and more, who can offer additional support through your rehabilitation.

  • We ensure you’ve got all the information you need
We use technology to keep in touch. Everything you need to know about your own recovery programme will be sent to you online, so it’s always easy to access. If you can’t make it into the clinic to see us, but would still like to check in with your physiotherapist, we can also offer telehealth consultations. These will allow us to review your progress, and provide any additional rehabilitation exercises or advice to aid in your recovery.

  • We keep things realistic
We know that not everyone has access to gym equipment or swimming pools. We prescribe rehab exercises that are going to work with your lifestyle in a way that is realistic and convenient. While we can support you with training plans and give you access to a state-of-the-art fitness centre, we also focus on effective, functional at-home exercises that don’t require any fancy equipment or take too much time out of your day.

  • We focus on feedback

We regularly check in with you to see how you are progressing, what changes have occurred, where you may be struggling or what kind of pain or discomfort you are still experiencing. We’ll also continue to update your rehabilitation programme to align with this progress, and provide any feedback on your technique. By breaking your progress into milestones, we know it makes it  easier for you to stay on track.
    • With these five aspects covered, there is little room for excuses when it comes to taking control of your own health and healing! Through advice and education, our role is to help optimise your function and wellbeing, so that you can integrate back into the activities you love. But your role is not to be underestimated. Be an active participant in your rehab outside of the clinic, stay focused on your recovery goals and be honest with us about your progress and you’ll be on the road to feeling and functioning even better than before in no time.
