Physiotherapy Clinic Auckland

Do you need a referral for a physio in New Zealand?

In New Zealand, having a referral from your GP isn't mandatory for seeing a physiotherapist; however, it can help ensure that you get the best possible care. It allows the provider to tailor their service based on your individual needs and makes sure that you receive treatment from someone with appropriate qualifications. Ultimately, getting the right advice before committing to long-term treatment is key to getting the best result for your health and well-being.

How quickly should I get an appointment?

With any physical issue, early intervention is key to minimizing the impact. Ideally, you should get an appointment with a physiotherapist as soon as possible; many companies offer onsite services where you can be seen quickly and preventative treatments can be provided. If no such service exists at your workplace, you will need to make an appointment at an offsite clinic. It is also possible to self-refer to us, your local physiotherapy clinic in Auckland if you do not wish to go through your GP first. All of this means that fast action is needed to ensure the best possible results from treatment, so don’t delay in getting help when needed!

What will happen during my first appointment?

During your first appointment, your physiotherapist will ask you a range of questions to build a better understanding of your medical history and the problem at hand. These include details about any previous injuries or symptoms you may have, as well as what is causing discomfort in the present. This can be followed by an assessment to diagnose the issue and develop your treatment plan. It’s worth mentioning that this plan might not involve hands-on therapy; it could involve certain exercises or small changes to things like your desk or chair setup. Generally speaking, the entire appointment should only take between 20-30 minutes.

How will I be assessed?

During your physiotherapy assessment, the therapist will ask you questions about the specific problem causing you pain. To get an accurate understanding of your condition, they'll also ask questions about other conditions or activities that can affect it. The therapist will then physically assess your condition by having you do some simple movements to check your flexibility and range of motion. They may also do a further direct examination, such as palpation (gentle pressing) of the affected area. Your physiotherapist will then be able to provide a diagnosis and treatment plan tailored specifically for you and your problem.
